Strategy The Fuzz system – That’s what all the FUZZ is about

Of all carp materials available on the market period, the ‘end-tackle’ products often make the difference between catching or blanking. Especially on pressured waters, carp have developed themselves to true artists of detecting the angler’s set-up. After a long development – and testing period Strategy is proud to start a new revolution of rig & set-up camouflage: The Fuzz. This system will definitely put more fish on the bank!

The Fuzz system combines 3 components that allow you to easily fish horizontal and vertical style. The instructions below show you how to change into the ‘system of the future’.

Mainline
For horizontal fishing with tight or slack lines we recommend the use of a sinking line, such as the Gamakatsu Fluorocarbon. Next to the transparent Natural color this top quality Fluorocarbon, a new dark brown version will be available in 2010. The dark brown version is less reflective and perfectly camouflaged on dark bottoms like silt and mud. Fluorocarbon has a higher weight as nylon, which makes it first choice for fishing slack lines.

The Fuzz systems also excels in the vertical fishing style. This style, when the (floating) line runs over the water surface to a float and then directly to the lead. For this style, we recommend the Gamakatsu G-line Flex. This line is very supple and 100% round. This results in further casts, but also self-stretching of the line and a lower chance of tangling. A tangle-free, floating line is exactly what we need for vertical fishing.

The Fuzz tube

The Fuzz material has been professionally added to a 0.75mm latex tube to resemble the most natural look and feeling of real weed and reeds. Compared to PVC tube, the latex tube is much more softer, which allows it to bend easily at the touch of a fish and even move naturally in the flow just like real weed.

The Fuzz tube (available in both Weed and Silt color) can be used in all water types as a replacement of the normal tube. During various fieldtests ranging from small  and pressured waters to the biggest French reservoirs the results were astonishing. From soft muddy bottoms to rock hard gravel bars and plateaus, also on spots where weed does not naturally grow the Fuzz tube positively influences the catches.

The Fuzz lead

The identical ‘Fuzz’ camouflage has also been added to 2 lead weights: the ‘standard’ Flat Pear and the UFO lead, which is especially designed for vertical fishing. Both leads are fitted with a durable swivel fixed into the lead, this allows the lead to rotate freely and use to full weight of the lead at the pick-up!

Image 2: A sunken swivel guarantees the use of the full weight at the pick-up!

The Fuzz lead system is unique as well in both looks and feeling, the Fuzz material will start to absorb water from the moment in is in the water. This creates a soft cover over the lead and matches the rest of the total The Fuzz concept, which tries to reduce any possible negative conditioning for rigs and set-ups for the fish.

The Flat Pear leads are available in Weed version in weights ranging from 71gr (2.5 oz) to 171gr (6 oz). The UFO leads are available both in Silt and Weed color in weights 114 (4 oz), 171 (6 oz) and 228gr (8 oz). The use of a float in the vertical fishing style makes it necessary to use a heavy lead weight.

The Fuzz hook

Image 3: The Fuzz hook combines an optimal camouflage with a neutral underwater weight for the very best hoop-up ratio!

The success of the Strategy The Fuzz hook has amazed us during the 2 year testing period in surface-, float-, zig-, pop-up- and bottom fishing with baits ranging from cat biscuits to fluo pop-ups. The advantages of the Fuzz hook are clear:

Weight, looks & feeling
The Fuzz hook imitates a piece of weed / debris. The hook is therefore not easily recognisable by the fish as a piece of metal during feeding. The flexible fibers float, which balances the hook underwater making it virtually suspending. This does not only lead to an easy pick-up of the hookbait, but also responds differently in the fish’s mouth. The Fuzz hook has an excellent hook-up ratio, because the fish feed with great confidence false takes or hook pulls are very rare and only a fraction of the number of losses you would have on a ‘normal’ hook.

As hook pattern, we have chosen to use the razor-sharp Gamakatsu Super & Specialist models. Both are available in sizes 4, 6 and 8 in Weed and Silt versions. Next to the Fuzz camouflage, the hook also features a pre-tied hair for easy attachment of your hookbait.

The Fuzz system

By fishing with vertical lines the angler breaks with line pressure that is known on nearly all waters. By the use of floating buoys carp can swim and feed freely on the fishing spot without being spooked by lines. Another advantage is that each desired fishing spot can be chosen without have to worry about the other lines. The buoy also is an easy aiming point for baiting up. Fishing close to obstacles becomes easier because of the upwards pressure of the buoy. Carp come easier to the surface during the fight, which is ideal in fishing over plateaus or bars.

Summary
Strategy The Fuzz brings us one step closer to the ultimate camouflage of the rig and set-up. It’s an illusion that fish will feed on spots they normally wouldn’t feed, but we can promise you that the fish will feel more safe on your fishing spot and feed with more confidence. That’s what all the Fuzz is about!
