Lukas Nicke: Adventures with the SPRO RedArc Tuff-Body 10200
Dear ladies and gentlemen,
I want to inform you about the special catch we have made last year on light material in the Filipines. The fishing set consists of the RedArc Tuff-Body 10200 casting reel and a telespin 180 ML spinning rod.
In february and march 2008 I have been backpacking in the Philipines together with 3 good friends (Jürgen, Armin and Hermann). I wanted to fish there as well during the trip, and purchased a special fishing set for the trip. On the internet and in the fishing magazines, only little information was available about fishing in the Filipines, therefore I decided to bring a broad range of saltwaterspinners and lures.

Fishing in the Filipines by the local community is mostly done with nets, buts also with dynamite. On the beach, we were invited to make a diving trip by the owner of a boat. We could also fish from the boat, but he did not have any fishing material himself. We were keen to try it! After diving in a reef, we started fishing at about 500 meters from the coast on open sea. With the three of us, we all fished our own direction!
At a couple of casts I felt a clear bite on my spinner and the drag started to work. The take was one I have never experienced before! The perfectly adjustable drag of the RedArc helped me to stop the fish from swimming away, but it was now swimming in various directions. It became clear to me that this fish was putting my light rod, reel and line (0.17mm / 10,2kg braided line) to the maximum. After 10 minutes my arms were hurting so much, that I gave the rod to one of my friends. He gave the rod over after 10 minutes as well, so that everybody on the boat experienced the great power of this fish.

After nearly an hour, the fish came closer to the boat, its runs became shorter and less powerfull. Slowly the fish came closer to the surface and came to sight. At about 2 meters from the boat a torpedo shaped fish became visible, but we did not have a landing net or gaff on board. When the fish came close to the boat, my friend Armin succeeded to grab the fish at its tail and lift the fish in the boat.

There it was! A yellowfin tuna of 1,15m and ca. 14kg weight. The sight of this powerful creature made it clear which power the material had to withstand.
Returning on the beach, everybody looked again at the light fishing set and was astonished about the strength and functionalitu of the RedArc reel, I did fish only with a size #20 reel. We would have never thought that such a small reel could deal with such a big pressure. An excellent performance!

I would like to congratulate SPRO with the amazing RedArc. After the trip, the RedArc is recommended to many friends. In fact, 2 of my friends who went to the Filipines with me, directly bought the reel when they came back home in Germany!
A perfect quality reel with an excellent price/quality ratio!
